Let it snow!

On Sunday afternoon we took a guided tour of Seoul. We saw an ancient palace, Gyeongbok, as well as a couple of outdoor markets. We sampled some of the local cuisine but decided against the roasted caterpillars and octopus jerky. We had dinner at a traditional Korean restaurant. We took our shoes off at the door and sat on the floor. The floors were nicely heated, so it was a nice treat on a cold night! The waitress brought out course after course of exotic dishes, some we ate not knowing what it was. We were beginning to wonder if the food would ever stop coming! After dinner we enjoyed a Korean performing arts show. There were dancers, drums, flutes and other traditional Korean instruments. It was quite impressive.
Carrie woke up in the middle of the night thinking about our trip the next day to meet Ty and the foster mother. She had so many questions running through her head, she had to get up and write them down just so she could go back to sleep.
We awoke Monday morning and looked out our hotel window to see a wall of white. According to a local we met at lunch today, he hasn't seen this much snow since he was a child (we're guessing ~ 30 years). It looks like close to a foot of snow.
This city doesn't seem to know what to do with all this snow. It's 5pm and we haven't seen a single snow plow yet. The hotel had all its available employees out in the parking lots shoveling by hand. Even the cooks were lending a hand with their chef hats still on. It was quite a sight. Pedestrians were walking through snow drifts in high heels. Vehicles were spinning and swerving left and right. Delivery trucks were spun around backwards, blocking traffic. It's basically a three-ring circus without the wild animals.

We ventured out in the snow after breakfast to meet our case worker at the adoption agency, and were disappointed to learn that our trip to meet Ty would be delayed. We know that God controls even the weather, so although we had an appointment for today, it wasn't the appointed time. We are so glad that God's appointments are never delayed. We are not sure what this delay will do to our scheduled departure. Hopefully we can meet him Tuesday and still pick him up on Wednesday. If not we will have to look into changing our flight.

Delays like this have been par for the course in this adoption journey. We are learning to wait on God and his timing. We wanted to meet Ty today, but what we really want most is to bring him home at the Lord's appointed time. Our times are in His hands.

  1. Sorry for the delay but glad you're leaning on His appointed time for it is the only time. Will pray you can still leave on Thursday if that's His will. Pictures are great. Keep 'em coming.

you have been in my thoughts and prayers. I know how those delays feel and how excruciating the wait can be. When little Ty is in your arms, it will all fade away. You will see God worked things out in perfect timing and to His Glory! Keep the updates coming!

  6. I saw on the news this morning that South Korea had the most snow since 70 years! Praise God it was AFTER you got there and not while you were trying to get there. I am so sorry your visit with Ty has been postponed. I was praying at 11:20 last night, not realizing there had been a delay. How wonderful that you are trusting that God is in control and that it is only a matter of time when you will hold your son in your arms.
    Hugs and prayers,
    Cheryl

  7. Nice pictures! We are praying that the Lord works it out that you get to meet Ty soon. God always has perfect timing, but it frequently doesn't match our timetable. We will be praying. :)
